IMPORTANT Camp Information

Posted by admin under: activities.

Due to some unforeseen issues at Timber Pointe Outdoor Center, the Horizon recruitment committee is still working diligently to make cabin placements and send finalized acceptance packets.  We will keep you posted as soon as we get more information.  We will not be able to accept all of our applicants this year, but we are trying to figure out ways to include as many campers and volunteers as possible.
Please be patient with us throughout this week.  We will let you know as soon as we can.
Sincerely,
Horizon Recruitment Committee 2009

Summer Camp Volunteers Needed

Posted by Trimpe under: activities.

Horizon is busy planning 2009 Summer Camp.  The activities staff are working on some new ideas for activities that will use this year’s theme “TV SHOWS.”  We have the most adults with physical disabilities applying for this year’s camp but, we are needing volunteers.  If you are able to volunteer this summer please fill out an application on our summer camp page.  No experience necessary, just a willingness to help.

We could also use assistance to help set up camp, on Saturday, July 18.  So if you are unable to come for the entire week, come on down Saturday to help in visit with your friends from Horizon.  For more information about this year summer camp please e-mail camp@associationofhorizon.org.

Thank you bowling committee

Posted by Trimpe under: fundraising.

Horizon’s Candlelight bowl was held on Saturday, April 25.  Nearly 90 people were in attendance and everyone enjoyed themselves.  The evening included three games of bowling.  The final game, watching people bowl with their eyes closed, standing on one leg or bowling between your partner’s legs was entertaining even for the spectators.  There was good food and excellent music provided by the DJ, A-Z Entertainment.  The highlight of my evening was watching everyone trying to win a variety of wonderful raffle prizes, after all, the more raffle tickets you purchased the better chance of winning your prize.
Thanks to everyone for attending and especially the organizers of this fun event.  Let me know when next year’s event is coming so I can put it on my calendar.

2009 Horizon Hockey Outing

Posted by Trimpe under: activities.

Saturday evening March 21, around 70 Horizon members enjoyed a well played hockey game.  It was a good defensive battle and close game throughout.  Ending regulation time in a 2-2 tie, entitled the audience to some extra hockey.  The sudden-death period was not enough time to decide a winner, so we got to watch a shoot-out .  Unfortunately the Chicago Wolves ended up going down in defeat but, Horizon did its best to scream and cheer the entire game.
How about that stream the entertaining laser light show when they announced the starting lineup?  Very entertaining and worth the price of the ticket alone.

We have been getting some great activity on our GoodSearch page. I think it’s awesome how the members of this organization have stepped up and started doing this. Keep spreading the word, the more people we turn on to this simple way to support Horizon, the better! Don’t forget about GoodShop too, there are hundreds of stores to shop through. The link is right on the GoodSearch page.

Click the link below & start searching. :)

2009 Summer Camp Applications Are Ready

Posted by Geri Skudney under: activities.

The official start to our 2009 camp season began Saturday at the Recruitment Kickoff Party at Hackney’s Glenview. Thank you to those who came out in the snowy weather to enjoy some time with their Horizon friends and to fill out their camp applications.

The application is now available on-line too. Since space is limited and we are anticipating a large number of new camper applicants, we have decided to fill spaces with previous Horizon campers up to March 10th. After March 10th we will begin to fill the remaining spaces on a first come, first served basis. If you are a new camper to our program, you can still submit your application before March 10th. You will be placed on a list according to date received and after March 10th we will fill remaining spaces from the list till we are full.
